You’re reading WOODRUFF. I cover the convergence of pop culture, psychology, and astrology. Join my entourage of subscribers—you’ve been missed. My bio is here
HAVING LANDED ON SUBSTACK four years ago, it’s been fascinating to watch the steady influx of astrologers to this platform as ‘traditional’ social media roach motels collapse. I last witnessed this accretion 25 years ago when I first established my astrological presence online. This is a timeless migration regarding astrology and other metaphysical arts. Soon after a prevalent watering hole is established, the con artists and grifters arrive. Today I happened to catch an astrology newsletter that touted one of its subscriber’s landing cheap Ozempic prescriptions because she’d followed the astrologer’s ‘tip sheets’ (that are sent out for seven dollars or some sketchy shit like that). Oh, gawd, fuck me.
Pivots and ‘everything must change…’
I think Abe Lincoln (or Bill Cosby? — Bing Crosby?) said, ‘You can’t please everybody.’ I mention this because as I’ve pivoted to include more videos and podcasts on WOODRUFF, readers have shared feedback that jumps from “I love the new content, keep it coming” to “I like reading things better, please stop.” To the former, I say, “Fantastic. Thank you.” To the latter, I’ll point out that with every audio/video post I produce, a TRANSCRIPTION button is listed directly beneath the media player, so you can read instead of listening or watching. Is everybody happy? I’ll continue with both written and audio-video content as the year unfolds.
Speaking of watching stuff
Last week, I was pleased to be a guest on astrologer Dabney Lawless’s Lawless Astrology YouTube channel. When she first contacted me, I was stoked to appear on a production considered ‘lawless,’ but then discovered it was Dabney’s last name. We had a great time slicing through some different pieces of the Pluto in Aquarius cake. I also did an impromptu reading of the Tarot for Trump’s four-year term that veered off into the feline realm of the Cat Tarot (you’ll have to watch for yourself). Something for everybody, I’d say. Another interview I enjoyed immensely recently was with astrologer and bibliophile
for her Within Orb podcast. You’ll find that here:A don’t-wanna-miss collection of new content through February on WOODRUFF and a 20% discount NOW!
• Astrologer Jessica Murray and I met up yesterday to parse out what in the fuck is happening in the United States and how the thuggishness is mirrored in the dark horoscope for Trump’s January inauguration. We also deep-dived how to regard the upcoming Saturn-Neptune conjunction. Plus, we explored insights related to Elmo Musk’s mental health crisis.
• Upcoming soon: Mars the Marvelous Malefic with heavy metal astrologer Caleb McCoy.
• Later, Pluto in Aquarius and the Art of Internet Memes with author and journalist .
• And finally: I’ve been trying to land an interview for over two years (!) with writer Mary Plumb, a former editor at The Mountain Astrologer. I’m curious to hear Mary’s takes on how she reads the lay of the land related to the loss of so many classic astrological print publications during the past three decades. That’s coming at the end of the month.
Reserve your seat for these mind-bending transmissions. Through the weekend, I’m offering 20% off all one-year subscriptions to WOODRUFF.
Love,

I meant to ask you why you aren't giving me insights about getting discount prices on Ozempic!
Really looking forward to the Jessica Murray interview. When is that going to appear?
