It’s gone into the vapors. Everything was sold or trashed after her death. But I know what you’re saying.

Your mum/mom is a total icon. Those bangs, hair, brows 😍😍😍

Right, the Jane Wyman hairdo! All the rage back then.

Wonderful eulogy to your sweet mom, Frederick! I now love her from afar and wish my own mother had been tall, leggy , funny and gorgeous. And I must say it's fun to know you have been well-dressed from a very young age. Too cute!

Thanks Maggie. I was a mini sartorial maven — for school the next day I’d layout my entire ensemble the night before.

my mom was sort of similar in that she had this thing where she'd show me, in her underwear, how perfectly thin she was by pointing out that her legs only touched together in the 3 places a model's would. Then, she'd harp on my overweight (I was 105 lbs 5'5" in high school, an impossibly thin weight now). Her expectation for me was size 0-2. She had amazing hair down to her tush, which she only cut much later in life. She believed in astrology, spirits, and that she was in charge of everyone in her life which meant controlling us 24/7 because, of course, none of us knew what we were doing or could be trusted to not sneak out of her life, and disappear. I don't think she ever slept. Pisces with a Gemini moon and Sag ascendant. Fortunately, for my sanity, she died at age 50. Her love of the unknown has lived on; her control issue --hopefully not.

Loved this comment Loretta, but sorry to read of such a draconian childhood. Glamorous parents can be tough on kids.

Wonderful and evocative post- aah the totemic parental influence.. well done.

Happy Heavenly birthday to your “sexy Sag” mama. (Blood of Christ!)

---“Her overriding charm and physical beauty overwhelmed me as a kid. Parents are already larger-than-life totems in our lives, but when they possess physical beauty, a weird glamor interferes with how the parent/child dynamic registers. You come to think that all life should be about beauty…”---

My mother was 5 years and 11 months younger than yours. We had the same dynamic as above. She was loquacious and looked sort of like Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds or Cher, depending on the time of day. I wasn't bad looking when young, but not in her league. I've lived with this inferiority complex all my life and have only more or less come to terms with it, not transcended it. My Venus is in Libra and it doesn't fit the rest of my Scorpio/Capricorn/Virgo chart.

Well, that Venus gives you an appreciation for bringing balance and beauty to your intensity I’d imagine. It also indicates parts of your nature that you saw mirrored in your mom.

Also, you have me keen to delve into my mother and father's charts. What a great idea! Maybe you could offer readings of Child+Mom+Dad. Make it pricy as it should be, but I would pay for one!

What a beautiful and loving and real tribute. Gave me such a picture of your mama and brought me to tears. (I’m a double Cancer, but still…)

i love this story and how wonderful to have had a mother with so much color (meant figuratively but the orange bikini also means literally)

I absolutely love your writing! Even the relatable destain for gewgaws struck a chord. Do you happen to have a recommendation for chart rectification for birth time? I don’t know my parents birth times but would love that layer of information. Years ago I tried a website where you enter significant dates and it accurately gave me a coworkers birth time. But I didn’t save the site info of course. Regardless of all that, thanks for the story. I have a gorgeous quad Scorpio friend with a Libra moon and Virgo rising…
